The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced plans to develop the Interstate 70 East project  through a public private partnership (P3) project.

It is scheduled that the commission will make its final decision on the financing of the project on 19 February 2015.

The I-70 East project corridor extends through the eastern portion of the City and County of Denver. The current project limits extend (in abbreviated form) from the intersection of I-70 and I-25 east to Tower Road, a distance of approximately 11 miles. This portion of I-70 also intersects several railroad lines, I-270 and I-225.

The purpose of the project is to implement a transportation solution that improves safety, access and mobility. The need for the project results from the following issues:

• Increased transportation demand
• Limited transportation capacity
• Safety concerns; and
• Transportation infrastructure deficiencies

According to the state's Transportation Commission members, the project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) basis.

In early December, the CDOT held an industry meeting for the Interstate 70 East. The industry forum was a critical step in the process to determine a funding and procurement plan for the proposed project. The forum provided an opportunity for industry teams to meet with CDOT officials.
