The government of Cayman Island has announced plans to finalize the financial contract for the Project Regen facilities located near George Town Landfill.
The PPP concession is set to achieve financial close soon, while the schedule for starting construction works is still not announced. The public consultation phase for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was concluded in June 2021.
Earlier in April 2021, the government formalized the concession with a consortium led by Dart Enterprise for the design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new integrated solid waste management system. Under Project Regen, new energy recovery and recycling facilities will be constructed capturing up to 95% of landfilled waste and contributing 8.5 MW of renewable energy to the grid.
