The Government of Cape Verde is set to launch privatization of its international airports after the completion of its deal to sell its 51% stakes in the state airline, Cabo Verde Airlines, to Loftleider Cabo Verde, subsidiary of Loftleidir Icelandic which is part of Icelandair Group.

The list of facilities that will be included in the concession plans includes the  Cesária Évora Airport located in São Vicente, Boa Vista International Airport in Boa Vista Island, Praia International Airport located in Santiago Island, and the Sal International Airport. There are three smaller airports in Cape Verde, but they are of relatively little importance.

The above-mentioned airports have different attributes - some are commercial, some exist for social purposes. The concessionaire most likely will be expected to operate all of them. The concessionaire will want to know which airport - Sal or Paia - is going to be the countries main hub.

The potential concessionaires will require knowledge of island operations and remote facilities. Several companies are seen to participate in the concession. These include France's Vinci and Spanish AENA, both with the experience in operating islands´ airports. Possibly Norway's Avinor, however, it is unknown if it has the intention to work internationally. Nor Iceland's Isavia, which operates in Iceland only. ACSA is the only company of the African region who can be seen participating in the concession.
