The City of St. Louis in the USA has decided to cancel the tendering process for the leasing of St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) located in St. Louis, Missouri. The mayor of St. Louis has decided not to support the concession procedure and to opt for different methods for the improvements of the airport.
St. Louis would be the first major airport in the U.S. to lease its full operation.
The concession included operation and maintenance of the airport. The airport has 1,000 unused acres of land, US$ 900 million of capital requirements over the next 10-15 years, a big runway which is underutilized and almost US$ 700 million in debt.
