The director of works for the Cuatro Ciudades consortium has announced that the construction of the Caacupé Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is in its final stages, reaching 95% progress, while the comprehensive sewer system, pumping stations and pumping lines are 85% complete in Caacupé, Paraguay.
The project, benefiting over 15,000 residents of the Cordillera department's capital, is progressing with key works such as completing storm drains made of concrete to protect three main pools, expected to finish in a month. Four of seven artificial wetland pools are nearly done, along with external lighting and civil works. The final 300 home sewer connections and pumping stations are being installed and will be completed within 30 days.
The Cuatro Ciudades firm has been awarded the contract for infrastructure development related to wastewater collection and treatment systems, as well as improvements to drinking water systems for Intermediate Cities – Group 1. The project is valued at PYG 107.6 billion (US$ 13.5 million) and is made possible through joint financing from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and local funds.
With this new infrastructure, Caacupé becomes a regional leader in sanitation efforts, helping to reduce health risks and fostering sustainable urban development. The WWTP will ensure the proper management of both domestic and industrial wastewater, marking a significant step toward enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Caacupé and its surrounding areas.
