According to an announcement issued by Thailand's Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), the estimated budget required for the development of the Phuket light-rail PPP project has incrased to a total project investment of THB40 billion (US$1.21 billion).
No explanation was given for the extra THB594 million (US$18 million) now deemed required to develop the project. The description of the project provided by OPT explained no changes to the project . The total track length of the light-rail is expected to be 58.5km, from Tha Noon in Phang Nga to Chalong Circle.
The OPT is also hosting on 2 December a public meeting in Phuket Town about the light rail PPP project. OTP Director-General Sarawut Songsriwilai will be presiding over the meeting, with Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana also to attend.
