Agencia Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT) in Brazil has received approval from the Ministry of Infrastructure for the concession of road stretch BR-163/230/MT/PA from Sinop in Mata Groso state to the ports in Miritituba in Para state. The authority has sent the concession to Federal Audit Court (TCU) for review. This road stretch is considered the main logistical corridor on the north axis of the country.
This PPP project includes the development of 970km long road passing through 13 municipalities in states of Mato Grosso and Para.
The concession period will be 10 years and the criteria for the auction will be the lowest tariff. The expected CAPEX investment for the project is BRL 1.93 billion (USD 337 million).
The scope of works involves services for recovery, operation, maintenance, monitoring, conservation, implementation of improvements and maintenance of the service level of the stretch of Highway BR-163/MT, between the Border PA/MT to Entroncamento MT-220, in the Municipality of Sinop; Section of Highway BR-163/PA, between Entroncamento with BR-230/PA and Divisa PA/MT; Stretch of Highway BR-230/PA, between Entroncamento with Highway BR-163/PA and the Tapajós River Crossing. An additional 35 km of lanes, 30 km of marginal roads, 173 km of extension, and 187 accesses will be implemented, including a new entrance to the ports of Miritituba.
The purpose of the project is to obtain an attractive model with appropriate treatment of risks, to provide the highway with perennial traffic conditions, conditions for the flow of grains compatible with the existing port structure, to reduce operating costs and travel times for vehicles, propose engineering solutions for the elements of the road system in the long term, even though the concession term is shorter than usual, compatible with the expected start-up of the railway.
