The Ministry of Infrastructure in Brazil has signed two concessions for Porto do Açu (Rio de Janeiro) and Porto de Santarém (Pará) LNG terminal projects in Brazil. These two projects are part of the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI), called Project Grow, which involves 34 infrastructure projects to be carried out under PPP scheme.
GNA was awarded the concession contract for the Porto do Açu terminal. The project involves the development of a port terminal to move 21 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, as well as two thermoelectric plants for the handling and storage of liquefied natural gas in Porto do Açu in Rio de Janeiro. The PPP project comprises the Brazil’s first private transshipment terminal and result in a more cost effective and environmentally sustainable solution for Brazil. This huge project involves a total investment of BRL 16 billion (US$4.4 billion)
The Porto de Santarém project involves the replacement and expansion of the fuel tanks of Santarem terminals STM 04 and 05. This project, which was awarded to Petrobras Distribuidora S.A, is crucial for the region as the consumption of fuel increased by 24% between 2011 and 2014. The investments for the project is BRL 175 million (US$ 47 million).
