The President of Brazil has announced that tenders for concessions of 12 airports in three regions of the country, 4 ports and a sub-concession of the North-South Railway will be launched in the first quarter of 2019. All of the concessions will be procured as a public-private partnerships.
Six of the airports to be tendered are located in the north-east of the country and are to be developed with a focus on tourism. Four airports are located in Mato Grosso, a state in the west, and are to focus on agribusiness. The remaining two airports are located in the south-east and their operations are to support local oil production.
The sub-concession of the North-South Railroad will involve 1,500 kilometers between Puerto Nacional, in the state of Tocantins (centre-west) and Estrela D'Oeste, in Sao Paulo (south-east).
The port concessions will cover three port terminals in Cabedelo, Paraíba (north-east) and one in Vitória, Espírito Santo (south-east).
Over their 30-year terms, the concessions are expected to earn the Ministry of Transport over BRL4.5 billion (US$1.17 billion). The total investment to be made by concessionaires is estimated at BRL6.4 billion US$1.66 billion.
