The Ministry of Economy of Brazil has announced that BR-381/262/MG/ES highway megaproject was filed at the Federal Audit Court (TCU). The publication of the bidding notice is scheduled for the last quarter of 2020 and the auction should take place in the first quarter of 2021.
The concession project aims to exploit the infrastructure and provide public services for recovery, operation, maintenance, monitoring, conservation, implementation of improvements and maintenance of the service level of the BR-381/MG (between Belo Horizonte and Governador Valadares) and BR-262/MG/ES (between João Monlevade/MG and Viana/ES) highways. The stretches in question have a total length of 672 km.
The BR-262 section crosses the Vitória region to João Monlevade. It connects areas destined for livestock, agriculture, mining and industrial and commercial centers (Manhuaçu/MG region).
The stretch of BR-381 links Governador Valadares to Belo Horizonte, crossing the Vale do Aço, an important region composed of steel mills that induce economic development and job creation. It is an important outlet for finished products, especially in the automotive sector.
The concession has a 30-year term, with investments of BRL 7.8 billion (US$ 1.41 billion) expected. The initiative has already gone through the Public Consultation process, completed on May 8 this year.
According to the Feasibility Studies and Draft Public Notice and Contract made available during the consultation, works are expected to duplicate 595.4 km, with 202 km between the 3rd and 8th year of concession and the remaining 394 km between the 15th and the 20th year. The construction of 127.2 km of marginal roads, 42.4 km of additional lanes, Manhuaçu contour, 44 unevenness intersection devices, two tunnels and 54 walkways is also planned.
The project is expected to generate more than 12 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
