The Campinas city hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil has presented a new concession plan for Viracopos airport and announced a schedule for the auction.
The auction is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2022. The authority has introduced changes in the new concession such as the reduction of intervention area size. Earlier in 2012, the concession included expansion works on 27 sq km of the airport site, which is being reduced to 13 sq km.
The new concession will have 30 years period for the implementation of a new runway. The project aims to increase passenger traffic to 40 million passengers per year from the current 10 million per year. The scope of works also includes the construction of four new runways, a fire rescue station and a connection to the existing utility service.
