The Ministry of Infrastructure in Brazil has postponed the privatization transaction for the Port of Itajai by two years. The current agreement for the port operation with the municipality of Itajai ends on December 31, 2022, and will be extended for two more years until the privatization of the port is successful. The new agreement with the municipality will expire in December 2024.
Located on the north coast of the state of Santa Catarina, the Port of Itajai is the second largest port in Brazil handling containers, serving as an export port. Currently, it is responsible for 70% of the state’s trade flow and approximately 5% of Brazil's port flow.
