Brazil postpones launch of concession notice for USD2.3 billion Highway PPP project

Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT) in Brazil has postponed the launch of the concession notice for the BR-381 and BR-262 highways in the Minas Gerais. The concession notice will be launched now on September 01, 2021, almost one week later than planned on August 25, 2021.

TCU had approved the highway concessions on July 28, 2021. The Ministry of Infrastructure's notice foresees investments of BRL7.3 billion (USD1.40 billion) in improvements and works and another BRL4.7 billion (USD902 million) for the operational part of the highways during a 30-year contract. The road project comprises over 670 kilometers of extension, involving the BR-381, from Belo Horizonte to Governador Valadares, and the BR-262, between João Monlevade (MG) and Viana (ES).

Among the main works planned after the concession are 402 kilometers of duplication, 228 kilometers of additional lanes, 131 kilometers of side roads, 130 returns, 125 route corrections, 40 footbridges, at least two stopping and rest points for road transport professionals, beyond the outline of the Minas Gerais municipality of Manhuaçu.

The bidding auction is expected to take place in the last quarter of 2021.
