The Federal Government of Brazil is considering the concession of the Itajaí port, located in the southern state of Santa Catarina, to private developers.

Currently, the port is operated by the state government. Brazils' Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) will launch technical studies for the concession plans.

The Port of Itajaí is the second largest in Brazil handling containers, serving as an export port, and drains most of all the state's production.
