Brazilian capital Brasilia is set to build a light rail transit system project along W3 Avenue. The Transport and Mobility Secretariat (Secretaria de Estado de Mobilidade do Distrito Federal, SEMOB) has published an authorization term for five selected companies to prepare a feasibility study for the implementation of the LRT project.

Brasilia has given the five companies up to April 18 to submit a detailed work plan with the description of the activities planned for the preparation of the feasibility studies that include the amount of compensation required with personnel expenses (including charges), general expenses, administrative costs and taxes.

The LRT project will be presented to the public and other interested entities including Federal District Court of Audit (TCDF) and other control bodies for a public hearing before the start of bidding process. After this, the company winning the study may compete for the contest. If it does not win, the winner will have to reimburse it up to 2.5% of the total value of the investments.

It is estimated that the project will be completed within 36 months after the bidding process. The Government of the Federal district expects the works to begin later this year.
