As part of Infrastructure Week, Mayor Muriel Bowser has held the ceremonial bond signing for the DC Smart Lighting PPP Project in Washington, USA.
The PPP project is the largest urban street lighting project in the country, which will modernize a 75,000 streetlight network in the District. It will replace all street and alley lights with energy-efficient LED technology that also includes remote monitoring and control systems.
Earlier this year, the US$309 contract for the project was awarded to Plenary Infrastructure DC (PIDC). The private partner will be responsible for the project's implementation, finance and operation during a concession period of 15 years. The DC Lighting PPP is supported by US$160 million financed through the DC Revenue Bond program.
