The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced that the Bogotá-Girardot Third Lane IP project, part of the fourth generation of highway concessions, has reached 78.67% completion, corresponding to the execution, operation, and maintenance of eight functional units.
The 18.92-km section between the access to the municipality of Granada and the Río Blanco bridge in Silvania will be made available to users in April 2025. The Bogotá-Girardot Third Lane IP project's total investment is US$3.06 billion (Capex Dec. 2024), and it is being implemented in the departments of Cundinamarca and Tolima.
This project benefits nearly one million people in the municipalities of Soacha, Silvania, Granada, Fusagasugá, Melgar, Ricaurte, and Girardot, as well as commuters who travel through this area daily. The Bogotá – Girardot Third Lane project, carried out by the Vía Sumapaz concession, has Functional Unit 0, for the operation and maintenance of the corridor and includes the rehabilitation of the dual carriageway, for an approximate length of 144.8 km, the expansion to a third lane from the Chinauta toll to Soacha on both carriageways, and the expansion to a third lane from the Boquerón sector to the Chinauta toll, in the Girardot – Bogotá direction, left lane.
It also includes the rehabilitation of the Guillermo León Valencia tunnel, the adaptation of pedestrian bridges located over the corridor, the construction of roundabouts, and the expansion and construction of vehicular bridges.
