National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced the privatization auction of CEA, an energy distributor in the state of Amapá. The goal is to select a private partner with technical, operational, and financial capacity to improve the company's management and make the necessary investments to improve the quality of services. The winner will be awarded the public service concession for 30 years. The auction will take place on June 18, 2021.
The company will be acquired for BRL 50,000 (US$ 9,469.5), but the new controller will have to make a capital contribution in the order of BRL 400 million (US$ 75.75 million) and assume liabilities, priced at approximately BRL 1.1 billion (US$ 208 million). This investment aims to strengthen the company, which is expected to invest BRL 3 billion (US$ 568 million) in 30 years. In the first five years, at least BRL 500 million (US$ 94.69 million) should be invested to improve conditions for consumers.
CEA serves a population of around 830 thousand inhabitants and operates through a provisional concession. The winner of the auction will take the company's structure and another 30-year concession contract.
