The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has announced that it will finance the modernization and expansion of water supply and sewerage systems in Jaú, São Paulo, Brazil in the amount of BRL35.7 million (US$6.9 million).
The financing is equivalent to 95% of the investment plan and will be provided to the concessionaire Águas de Jahu SA (Saneamento Ambiental Águas do Brasil S.A.). The project involves the construction of 4 km and the replacement of 8 km of the 900 km of water distribution network, the drilling of three wells and construction of three reservoirs, the modernization of one of the water treatment plants and the installation of 2,400 new sewer connections.
The project includes operational improvements with direct benefit to more than 150,000 residents of the Jaú municipality and it is expected that 80% of the resources will be used in the water supply system, 13% in sewerage and 7% in other investments.
