Update 1: 18 September 2013
Brazil's national ground transport agency ANTT said yesterday that the eight proposals for the R$3.03 billion (US$1.34 billion) BR-050 highway concession are eligible for award today, Wednesday, when the auction will take place.
After the no submission of bid for the BR-262 highway concession, Prime Minister, Dilma Rousseff, announced that the government will schedule meetings with the investors to know first hand their concerns regarding the future highway concession tenders.
End update.
Brazil's national ground transport agency ANTT has received eight proposals for the R$3.03 billion (US$1.34 billion) BR-050 highway concession but it has not received bids for the BR-262 highway concession.
Consortia led by EcoRodovias, Invepar and Odebrecht, Triunfo Participacoes e Investimentos, Arteris, CCR, Queiroz Galvão, Fidens and Consórcio Planalto submitted proposals for BR-050 highway concession.
The Government will hold the first of a cycle of infrastructure auctions on Wednesday. Today, the government should announce how many of the eight submitted bids for the BR-050 highway concession are "economically viable" and will be allowed to participate on Wednesday.
The local press reports that the absence of bids for the BR-262 highway concession is an especially embarrassing setback, since the government had made sure that this first auction would be a success to pave the way for future ones. These two stretches of highway also were supposed to be the most attractive investments for private companies out of the nine highways the government is planning to concession.
Transport Minister did not define a new schedule for the BR-262 bidding and he gave no details as to why there was a lack of interest in BR-262, but affirmed that the federal government is currently analyzing the situation.
Government-owned BNDES development had agreed last week to finance up to 70% of investment.
The 30-year concession involves the maintenance, operation and expansion of the highway BR-262 from Viana (Espírito Santo) to João Monlevade (Minas Gerais). The road has a length of 375.6 km.
The 30-year concession involves the maintenance, operation and expansion of the highway BR-050 from Goias to São Paulo - Minas Gerais border. The road has a length of 436.6 km.
