The Minister of Public Works has announced the call for bids for the new concession of the Northern Access Route to Concepción (Itata Route) in Chile.
This project, representing a US$564 million investment, aims to enhance safety, travel times, and overall service on the route connecting Biobío and Ñuble regions, covering a 96.1 km area. The new concession for the Northern Access to Concepción spans 96.1 km, comprising 75.1 km of Route 152, 14.1 km of Route 158, and a new 6.9 km road directly linking Route 152 to Route 146. Key project milestones include 40.5 km of road realignment, 36.9 km of pavement restoration, 22.4 km of shoulder widening, and 4.6 km of additional lanes. Additionally, the project involves the construction of 12 new pedestrian walkways, 22 well-lit bus stops with pedestrian pathways, a general services area, 2 sales areas for local products, and an emergency care zone. In alignment with modernizing interurban highways, electronic toll collection with free-flow gantries will be implemented.
