Bids in for two clusters of Indian passenger rail privatization PPP

Indian Railways has received two bids for clusters Mumbai 2, Delhi 1, and Delhi 2 under its privatization of passenger rail line service public-private partnership (PPP) project. The two bidders are :

  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)
  • Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited (MEIL)

These clusters involve operation 29 pairs of trains with around 40 modern rakes entailing an investment of around INR72 billion (US$967.56 million). The private operators will improve passenger comfort by providing efficient air conditioning with automatic temperature and humidity control, superior interiors and toilets, access to non-disabled passengers, GPS-enabled passenger announcement system for onboard announcements and station arrivals, as well as safety announcements.
