The Colombian national government has called for a public bidding process for the El Estanquillo-Popayán highway corridor, a 20-year road concession that will efficiently connect the departments of Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Nariño and Putumayo with Ecuador.
This project will benefit more than a million people and reduce travel times thanks to the 6 interventions of rehabilitation, improvement and construction of new variants and dual carriageways from the municipality of Popayán to the El Estanquillo sector. The public initiative includes, in the construction phase (1.5 years of pre-construction and 4.5 years of construction) 14 tunnels, 116 vehicular bridges, 12 pedestrian bridges and 5 new intersections at ground level and grade difference, all new infrastructure. Considering the safety of users, along the sections the intervention of critical sites and the stabilization of slopes using geotechnical works is planned.
