BHP and the Federal government of Australia have undertaken road transport efficiency and safety improvements in Pilbara. The project includes road-over-rail bridges and the realignment of two major intersections. The scope involves the construction of a new 28-meter-long road-over-rail bridge at Nelson Point main line-level crossing on Great Northern Highway in Port Hedland, and upgrade two intersections at-grade BHP rail crossing on Powell Road.
The total estimated cost for the project is AUD 36 million (US$ 26.82 million). Out of which the Federal government will fund AUD 18.2 million (US$ 13.51 million) and BHP will fund AUD 13.26 million (US$ 9.84 million). The remaining AUD 4.54 million (US$ 3.37 million) will be funded by the State government of West Australia.
