Belfi and Icafal presented bid for operation and expansion of La Araucanía Airport in Chile

The bidding group made up of Belfi and Icafal has presented a bid for the operation and expansion of La Araucanía Airport.

The project has an investment of US$138 million, which will quadruple the current surface area of ​​the terminal located in the commune of Freire. The reception of Technical and Economic Offers for the Second Concession of La Araucanía Airport has been completed. This project involves modernizing and expanding the terminal to increase its capacity from 532,843 passengers in 2023 to over three million by 2030. The next steps include evaluating technical offers and opening the economic offers on December 20, 2024, with the concession expected to be awarded in Q1 of 2025. 

Key upgrades to the airport include a significant expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building, increasing its size from 5,570 m² to 22,276 m²—nearly four times its current area. In 2023, the airport accommodated 1,060,000 passengers. By October 2024, the passenger count surpassed 918,000, marking a 6% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
