Batelco has announced that its subsidiary Sure has agreed to buy a mobile network provider Airtel-Vodafone in Jersey and Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.
The transaction is a step towards the adoption of 5G technology on the islands, which will lead to the launch of innovative mobile networks on an accelerated program, as well as significant investments in digital infrastructure. The merger of Sure and Airtel-Vodafone supports Sure's strategy to increase scale and reach in line with Batelco's international investment aspirations and will enable the creation of high-quality mobile networks to improve coverage.
The Sure investment opens up new opportunities for developing overseas businesses, developing mobile networks and providing new and enhanced digital services. The merger must be approved by the Guernsey and Jersey regulators.
