The energy agency of the Basque Country, Ente Vasco de la Energia (EVE), in partnership with the local Grupo Krean, a part of Mondragon Corporation, has commissioned the 24 MW solar photovoltaic project in the Arasur Industrial Estate.
The solar project, developed under the public-private partnership scheme, consists of 67,000 polycrystalline photovoltaic panels installed over a 55-hectare land area. It can generate up to 40,000 MWh of energy per year and offsets about 14,600 tons of carbon emission annually.
The EKIAN photovoltaic solar plant is located on a 55-hectare industrial estate called “La l tears” within the ARASUR Industrial Estate, in the municipality of Ribera Baja / Erribera Beitia de Araba.
The two promoting entities of EKIAN are the KREAN Group (Mondragón Corporation) and the Basque Energy Agency, the Basque Government's energy agency. In turn, they have attracted the adhesion of a group of 26 associated companies from different sectors and fields (both industrial, services and administration) that have acquired part of the installed capacity with a global investment of EUR24 million (US$26.41 million).
