The Barrick Gold Corporation has announced the steady progress of the process of finalizing the final agreements and legal steps that will allow the development of the Reko Diq mine project in Balochistan, Pakistan.
An important stage of the process is the submission of documents for the presidential appeal to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The project will benefit the Chagai region of Balochistan in the form of employment, skills and economic development, as well as community initiatives aimed at ensuring food security. Following the completion of the legal process, Barrick will complete a feasibility study update to operate the quarry for over 40 years.
Reko Diq will be 50% owned by Barrick, 25% by Balochistan province and 25% by large Pakistani state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The project is expected to be put into operation between 2027 and 2028. Barrick's total contribution was $300,000, of which $150,000 was to the Balochistan Flood Relief Fund.
