The Government of Barbados is set to launch a tender for the development, operation, and expansion of the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) located in Seawell, Christ Church.
The concession of GAIA aims to expand its current passenger capacity of 2 million per year. The Tourism Minister stated that the concessionaire would be given up to 30 years to handle the facility before reverting to the control of the airport to the GAIA Inc.
The Government will be working with the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank, to obtain the technical expertise for the project and the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.
