Baltimore government has announced the re-vamp and re-launch of the city’s Red Line project in Maryland, USA.
The proposed Baltimore Red Line aimed to enhance transit efficiency, bridge an east-west transit gap, improve access to employment and activity hubs, establish connections with existing transit systems and transportation modes, expand commuter options, and contribute to economic development and community revitalization. The plan's key elements included:
- Transit Mode: The feasibility study considered both light rail transit and bus rapid transit options for the East-West corridor.
- Tunneling: Various alternatives were explored to minimize or eliminate tunneling in downtown areas. This assessment aimed to evaluate the costs, benefits, and drawbacks associated with tunneling.
- Highlandtown/Bayview Alignment: The plan included an alignment assessment for the Highlandtown and Bayview areas.
- Environmental Impact Survey: An environmental impact survey was conducted to evaluate the potential environmental consequences of the project.
