BNDES has concluded the auction to choose the winning consortium for the concession of the InterCidades Eixo Norte Train project in São Paulo, Brazil.
The C2 Mobilidade sobre Trilhos Consortium emerged as the sole qualified bidder and secured the bid. BNDES approved financing amounting to BR$6.4 billion (US$ 1.2 billion) to support the public contribution from the State of São Paulo towards the implementation of the InterCities Eixo Norte Train (TIC Eixo Norte), which will connect São Paulo to Campinas in a travel time of 1 hour and 4 minutes. The TIC Eixo Norte project entails a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for establishing and operating a medium-speed train linking São Paulo to Campinas. This encompasses an express service covering 101 km between the two cities, a stopover service spanning 44 km between Francisco Morato and Jundiaí, traversing 8 municipalities (TIM - Intermetropolitan Train), and a metropolitan stop service (Line 7-Rubi) connecting São Paulo to Francisco Morato, which is currently operated by CPTM, with a length of 57 km.
The overall investment is estimated at BR$12.5 billion (US$ 2.5 billion). The sponsored concession of the Intercidades Eixo Norte Train (TIC) to Campinas, facilitated by the government of the State of São Paulo, encompasses operation, maintenance, enhancements, modernization, and expansion services for rail public transportation, alongside the implementation of the Intermetropolitan Train (TIM) and enhancements to CPTM Line 7-Rubi. The concession period spans 30 years from the commencement of operation of the new branches or the extension of commercial service on Line 7.
