The Spanish autonomous community of Aragon has launched a tender process for a wastewater concession.

The contract had been awarded to Aqualia on December 3rd, 2007. Aqualia carried out the design of the construction project but it did not start the construction works.

The concession contract with Aqualia was later terminated on October 3rd, 2013.

The wastewater project involves construction and operation of the new facilities for a concession period of 22 years and 2 months. The project will process the wastewater from Utebo, La Joyosa, Pinseque, Sobradiel, Torres de Berrellén and Zaragoza (Casetas, Garrapinillos y Villarrapa).

The total project investment is estimated at €117.7 million (US$157 million).

Interested parties must submit their proposals on or before 24 September 2014.

Located in northeastern Spain, the Aragonese autonomous community comprises three provinces (from north to south): Huesca, Zaragoza, and Teruel. It has a population of about 1.35 million inhabitants. Aragon's northern province of Huesca borders France and is positioned in the middle of the Pyrenees.
