National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) in Brazil has signed a concession agreement seeking an extension for operation and maintenance of Malha Paulista railway concession with Rumo Malha Paulista. According to concession, the contract will expire in 2058.
Investments of more than BRL 6 billion (US$ 1.12 billion) are planned in works, rails, wagons, and locomotives in the first five years of the contract. Through the project, Malha Paulista will increase its transport capacity from the current 35 to 75 million tons and may reach 100 million tons in the future. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the planned investments will bring around BRL 600 million (US$ 112.75 million) to the public coffers, through the collection of taxes, over the next six years, which represents an average of BRL 100 million (US$ 18.79 million) per year.
