The National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) has announced the beginning of feasibility studies for the concession of the Tocantins River Waterway.
The Tocantins River Waterway, stretching 1,731 km from Belém (PA) to Peixe (TO), is under study for concession by ANTAQ. The agency is also advancing projects for the Paraguay, Madeira, Barra Norte, Lagoa Mirim, and Tapajós waterways. The concession aims to develop a logistics infrastructure for transporting grains, iron ore, liquid bulk, and containerized cargo.
The Madeira River Waterway, spanning 1,075 km, will see a BR$109 million (US$ 19 million) investment over its concession period. Planned works include dredging, rock removal, marking, and signaling. This waterway is crucial for transporting grain from Mato Grosso and Rondônia and for regional passenger movement. Passenger transport will be free, with fees only charged for cargo once the concessionaire starts providing services.
