The Colombian National Infrastructure Agency ANI will lead the proposed expansion of the El Dorado International Airport from its current capacity of 40 million passengers per year.
In May 2019, NAI has approved the feasibility study of a private initiative project that seeks to improve the flight field, consisting of the runways and taxiways in the airport. The feasibility study also allows the optimization of time usage of the two existing tracks in the air terminal. It also proposed the construction of new taxiways that will complete the circuit between the north and south runway further increasing the operational capacity of the airport.
The proposed expansion and concession of the El Dorado International Airport also include the operation and maintenance of the existing infrastructure and additional works that will upgrade the safety of runway aircraft. With an investment of up to COP914 billion (US$264 million) through the public-private partnership scheme, the total proposed duration of the project is six years with a construction period of three years.
