The Ministry of Public Works has supervised the progress of the construction work on the tunnel that will form part of the Américo Vespucio Oriente II highway, a 5.2-km underground section between Príncipe Gales and Avenida Los Presidentes, which will run through the communes of La Reina, Ñuñoa, Macul, and Peñalolén.

AVO II is being constructed as a modern mining tunnel, ranging from 23 to 54 m deep, beneath Metro Line 4, and will accommodate three lanes in each direction. The project includes 71,000 m² (7.1 hectares) of urban enhancements, such as plazas, green spaces, bicycle paths, pedestrian circuits, street furniture, children's play areas, water features, and lighting. AVO II is a significant engineering project in progress that will complete the Américo Vespucio ring road in Santiago. Currently, 7% complete, the project involves an investment of US$815 million and is expected to be fully finished by 2028. Upon completion, it will greatly benefit the nearly 3,000 motorists using the motorway each hour, reducing travel time from 30 minutes to just 5 minutes.
