Grupo Aldesa has announced that it has been chosen as the successful bidder to design, construct, operate and finance approximately 184km of road in Uruguay that will cross the departments of Rocha, Florida and Lavalleja, located in the south of the country. The 20-year concession contract is valued at EUR323.5 million (US$368.5 million).
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works launched the tender for the project in September 2017. After delaying the submission deadline three times, the Ministry received five bids for the project in February 2018 from the following consortia:
Pending the presentation of certain documents, the Aldesa-led consortium will rehabilitate and maintain three separate sections of the Route 14 highway totalling 145km and a 39km section of Route 15.
The maximum allowed financial offer for the project was 3.39 billion indexed units, which equals approximately US$415 million using today's exchange rates.
The provisional award signifies Aldesa's entry into Uruguay.
Uruguay's Ministry of Transport and Public Works has received three bids for the execution of the Ferrocarril Central (Central Railway) project, which involves the construction and maintenance of a 273km railway between the Port of Montevideo and the city of Paso de los Toros.
