Newly elected UCP government in Alberta, Canada calls for aggressive approach regarding P3s to bring private sector capital into helping to build public infrastructure. The government stated that in the long-run PPPs will help to get more job-creating infrastructure to make Alberta's economy more efficient. The Edmonton city mayor has stated that UCP government will leave the approach to future infrastructure to the city municipality.

Edmonton city has recently decided to not opt for PPP procurement for the city's west line light rail project.

In the same time the Valley Line Southeast Light Rail Transit will be developed under PPP by TransED — an international consortium of companies including Bechtel, EllisDon, Bombardier and Fengate Capital Management Ltd. The concession period for the southeast line is 30 years.
