The Government of Alberta has rejected Liricon Capital´s financial proposal for the Calgary-Banff rail public-private partnership (PPP) project in Alberta, Canada.
Liricon Capital has proposed an estimated value of CAD1.5 billion (US$1.15 billion) for the Calgary-Banff rail project, which would include a CAD30 million annual contribution from the Albertan government. Nonetheless, the Albertan Minister of Transportation, Prasad Panda, has commented that such commitment from the government will pose too much of a risk for the Alberta taxpayers, especially since the company presents unrealistic estimates regarding the capital costs, ridership and commencement of operation. The proposal will be reconsidered, subject to the provision of a realistic proposal that involves the company assuming financial risk and raising private capital.
