The Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) plans to develop the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project received the necessary environmental approvals from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
The Combined Final Environmental Impact Statement/Record of Decision (FEIS/ROD), signed by FHWA, represents the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project’s environmental clearance for the Selected Alternative, defines the mitigation measures to offset potential impacts, and signifies the conclusion of the 20-year environmental review process that involved public input.
With a Selected Alternative and issuance of the Combined FEIS/ROD, ALDOT can move forward with the next phase of project delivery by issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to the three teams pursuing the project. In February 2018, ALDOT shortlisted three teams and has been working with them since then to develop the RFP. Proposals are due in December of this year. ALDOT anticipates announcing the selected bidder in March 2020. The selected team will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the project for 55 years. ALDOT anticipates a five-year construction phase.
