Airports Authority of India (AAI) has declared Ahluwalia Contracts (India) as the winning bidder for the civil construction work of a new terminal building at Darbhanga Airport in Bihar, India.
The terminal, designed by SGA Design Lab, will have a basement, ground floor, and two upper floors with a built-up area of 59,222 sq. m. It will feature five aerobridges and is designed to handle a traffic demand of 3 million passengers per annum. The Bihar Government acquired 52.48 acres of land for the project in 2023. AAI invited tenders for the terminal's civil construction contract in November 2023, with an estimated cost of INR 6.3 billion (US$ 76 million) and a completion deadline of two years. Ahluwalia's bid of INR 5.7 billion (US$ 69 million) was below the estimated cost, and a contract is expected to be awarded in the coming weeks without an extended financial bid evaluation period.
