EQT announced that the EQT Infrastructure VI fund (EQT Infrastructure) has signed an agreement to acquire a 60 % stake in a newly created entity, which will own and operate Wind Tre’s mobile and fixed network infrastructure in Italy.
EQT Infrastructure plans to invest in the network, explore new growth prospects, and prioritize sustainability. CK Hutchison, the current owner of Wind Tre, will retain a 40% stake in the company after EQT Infrastructure acquires a majority stake. The transaction values the new company at EUR 3.4 billion (US$ 3,688 million). EQT Infrastructure partners with CK Hutchison in a bespoke transaction to invest in Italy's digital backbone and explore similar opportunities globally.
Wind Tre operates a portfolio of around 24,000 towers across Italy, providing the essential infrastructure for mobile operators to offer wireless services to their customers. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2023, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
