ADB to finance transport network project in Solomon Islands

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved support of almost US$150 million for the Solomon Islands Land and Maritime Connectivity Project. 

ADB is providing a grant of US$74.5 million sourced from the Asian Development Fund and a concessional loan of US$74.4 million, while the Government of the Solomon Islands is contributing the remaining US$21.8 million. The overall cost of the project is almost US$171 million.

The project is focused on the redevelopment of the country's road network and wharves. A total of 35 km of roads in and around of Honiara will be rehabilitated and upgraded. In addition, the project will support the construction of two wharves at Ahanga and Kira Kira and improvements of one wharf at Honiara International Port. The aim is to boost land and maritime connectivity in Solomon Islands.
