ADB has announced that it will finance a sustainable urban transport project in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. The program is being co-financed by the European Union’s Asia Investment Facility, European Investment Bank, Global Environment Facility, and the OPEC Fund for International Development.
The project involves the development of the following three BRT routes with a length of 149 kilometers: ITECC Mall–Non Teng, Tha Ngon–Thongpong, and National University of Laos–Fa Ngum Statue Park. The routes will be integrated into the VCSBE network, and their combined network will total 304.4 km. The program aims to ease traffic in Vientiane.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Laos People’s Democratic Republic are planning to build a bus rapid transit system and develop other transport solutions as the first stage of the urban transport project. The project will see over 11 kilometers of dedicated bus lanes, 24 enclosed stations, and over 90 climate-friendly buses.
