Abengoa has announced the completion of the contractual tests for the Agadir desalination plant in Morocco.
Developed by Abengoa, the desalination facility has the capacity to supply 275,000 m3 of potable water daily. The desalinated seawater is distributed, with 150,000 m3 allocated for the needs of the Greater Agadir population, and 125,000 m3 utilized for irrigating numerous hectares of agricultural land in the Chtouka plain, a significant market gardening area. The project also involved constructing an irrigation network spanning an area of 15,000 ha. Furthermore, the Agadir plant has the potential for expansion, with its capacity capable of reaching 400,000 m3/day.
The construction of the project necessitated a financial investment of MAD4.41 billion (US$439 million). Abengoa secured funding for the venture in collaboration with its local partner, InfraMaroc, an investment fund established by CDG Capital and supported by Morocco's Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG).
