Leaders of contractor Portcoast have announced that about 90% of the workload on Phu Quoc International Passenger Port has been completed in Vietnam.
Phu Quoc has significant potential as a leisure voyage destination, with 19 passenger ship companies operating 34 vessels on 113 tours connecting Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Northeast Asian nations. The Phu Quoc International Passenger Port can handle high-tonnage charter and cruise ships, expected to drive socio-economic development in the area. The project's estimated cost is VND1.645 trillion (US$71.6 million), with VND647 billion (US$28.1 million) from the local budget and the remaining VND493.4 billion (US$21.45 million) funded by Phu Quoc Tourism Development and Investment JSC through a BOT contract. The project's completion within the Q3 of 2021 is prompting engineers and construction workers to swiftly finalize the remaining components, including marine signaling devices.
The port in Duong Dong Town spans 180 ha and features a 240-m wharf, a 1,004-m bridge connecting the wharf to the beach, an 850-m breakwater, a passenger terminal, and essential facilities. It is designed to accommodate international liners with 5,000-6,000 passengers, as well as cargo vessels and defense ships.
