3i-backed Regional Rail, a leading owner and operator of short-line freight railroads across North America, has acquired the assets of Clinton Terminal Railroad.

Carolina Coastal Railway (CLNA), a subsidiary of Regional Rail, is set to take over ownership and control of the Clinton Terminal facilities. This transfer will establish the Clinton Branch under CLNA's umbrella. This acquisition further strengthens Regional Rail's established footprint in North Carolina, a foundation originally laid with the purchase of Carolina Coastal Railway back in 2020.

Regional Rail, LLC operates 7 railroads: East Penn Railroad, Florida Central Railroad, Florida Midland Railroad, Florida Northern Railroad, Middletown and New Jersey Railroad, Tyburn Railroad and Great Sandhills Railway, as well as the Conshohocken Recycling & Rail Transfer.  Through its subsidiary, Diamondback Signal, Regional Rail offers a range of services encompassing the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of railroad crossing signals. These services cater to a varied clientele comprising short-line and industrial customers.
