A total of 32 companies have purchased bid documents from the Port Authority of Thailand for the THB155.834 billion (US$4.77 billion) Laem Chabang Phase 3 expansion project in the Thung Sukhla subdistrict of the Sriracha district in Chonburi.
The expansion efforts are envisioned to increase the numbers the port can accommodate from 7.7 million containers per year to 18.1 million containers annually and 2 million cars per year to 3 million cars per year. The expanded port is also seen to boost the container shipments via railway from 7% to 30%.
The components, steps and points of Laem Chabang Port Phase III include:
Construction of 4 new container berths (E1, E2, F1, F2) increasing throughput to 7 million containers per year.
Construction of a further Ro-Ro terminal with a throughput of 1 million cars per year.
Construction of a costal terminal with a throughput of 1 million containers per year.
Phase II of the SRTO
Renovation and automation of current systems to allow for up to 4 million containers per year via SRTO
The anticipated year of completion is 2025 (slowest), and current construction plans are divided into a 5-year plan for infrastructural implementations (2018 – 2023) and a 3-year plan for the construction and installation of transportation accessories (2022 – 2025).
The details for the type of investment model to use are currently pending for review, however, it will occur in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP).
