The expansion efforts are envisioned to increase the numbers the port can accommodate from 7.7 million containers per year to 18.1 million containers annually and 2 million cars per year to 3 million cars per year. The expanded port is also seen to boost the container shipments via railway from 7% to 30%.

The components, steps and points of Laem Chabang Port Phase III include:

  • Construction of 4 new container berths (E1, E2, F1, F2) increasing throughput to 7 million containers per year.

  • Phase II of the SRTO

  • Renovation and automation of current systems to allow for up to 4 million containers per year via SRTO

The anticipated year of completion is 2025 (slowest), and current construction plans are divided into a 5-year plan for infrastructural implementations (2018 – 2023) and a 3-year plan for the construction and installation of transportation accessories (2022 – 2025).

The details for the type of investment model to use are currently pending for review, however, it will occur in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP).
