27.65% work progress on Popayán and Santander de Quilichao road Construction work

The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced that Construction work is progressing on the second road between the municipalities of Popayán and Santander de Quilichao in Colombia.

With an investment in works of more than US$2.06 billion, this project will benefit the inhabitants of six municipalities in the area of ​​direct influence, including Popayán, Totoró, Cajibío, Piendamó, Caldono and Santander de Quilichao. This initiative is 27.65% complete and has four sections: Popayán–Piendamó, Piendamó–Pescador, Pescador–Mondomo and Mondomo–Santander de Quilichao.

Its scope includes road rehabilitation and maintenance activities and the construction of the sections on the second carriageway. There will be 64 km of the second carriageway and 13 km of bypasses and the construction of 32 vehicular bridges, 5 bypasses, a new Operations Control Center and a Weigh Station. Currently, the average travel time from Popayán to Santander de Quilichao is 2 hours and 30 minutes. With the Popayán - Santander de Quilichao corridor, this journey is reduced to just 1 hour and 45 minutes; which means an estimated saving of forty-five minutes of travel time.
