The Iraqi National Investment Commission (NIC) has announced that the designs of the US$2.5 billion Baghdad Metro have been fully completed and a total of 26 multinational corporations have expressed their interest in the project.
Stretching across a distance of 148 km, the initiative will feature 64 stations, encompassing 85% of the city's area, including significant landmarks such as holy sites, educational institutions, and tourist attractions. The project is being executed under the Design, Build, Operate, Maintain, Finance, and Transfer (DBOMFT) ownership model. Iraq has solicited bids for the endeavor, attracting the attention of 26 multinational firms hailing from China, India, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Qatar, all expressing interest in participating in the project.
